Halloween in Guam

Last night was our first Halloween here in Guam.  We stocked up on the candy because he had been told by multiple people that since there were so many kids in our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods that we would see a lot of trick-or-treaters.  We started with two big bags of candy and then a couple days before Halloween went out and got one more big bag "just in case."  So we felt like we were prepared enough to handle all the kids that we would told we were going to be getting on Halloween night.

That brings us to last night.  Matthew and I dressed up in our Halloween costumes (because why should we let the kids have all the fun!?) and put some candles out in our medal pumpkins.  In case you missed a previous post, we did actually carve real pumpkins for Halloween but they lasted all of two days here with the humidity.  So we had our pumpkins out and lit, we had our costumes on and we were ready for the trick-or-treaters!  The time that was sent around to everyone on base for the kids to start was from 6pm until 8pm.  Imagine our surprise when we had three of the cutest little kids ring our doorbell at 5:30!  Oh well the night was getting an early start.  We were dressed as pirates and so the only logical thing to have playing in the back ground was the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean."  We watched that movie while we were waiting to hand out more candy to the kids.  We saw some really cute costumes but my favorite was a little boy who couldn't have been over 1.5 years old in a homemade scuba diver costume!  It was ADORABLE!  We also had one little kid that would not come and get his candy because he was so scared of us! Also, we got our picture taken with one group of kids because they thought our costumes were so cool!  Yepp we were awesome too!

We had been told to expect a lot of kids so we were expecting them....but, we only got 16 total.  After a brief rain storm that lasted from about 7-7:20 there weren't too many kids out anymore.  We had one more set of kids come through around 7:40 but after that the night was dead.  We only got 16 kids!!  And now we have half a cauldron (those candy buckets) full of candy and no idea what to do with it all.  I know if it just sits out that I am going to be munching on it all the time, and I don't want that!  Overall it was a fun night and we enjoyed seeing all the little kids dressed up.  Here are some pictures of Matthew and I in our costumes.

Oh and here is a picture of the Dirt that I made for our own special Halloween treat.

Thanks for reading and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

April Update

I thought that since I had not given an update in a while that is was about time I did.  So I am going to tell you what has been going on this past month. Matthew First  (because his is shorter than mine): Matthew had his certification test this past month as well as his E4 qualification exam.  He took the E4 exam before he had certification tests.  The E4 exam has a lot to do with why he was assigned to unaccompanied travel to Guam.  He was supposed to be ranked up to an E4 before he could be sent overseas as a accompanied traveler.  (If that doesn't make sense to you...join the club)  But, luckily  Matthew feels like he did well on the exam so hopefully he will be ranked up to an E4 and there won't be any controversy over me joining him in Guam.  Then there's the certification tests; these are the tests that he takes at the school for learning how to be a Naval K9 handler.  Matthew feels that he did really well on these tests ...

Your Due Date Is...

On today's blog I wanted to share with you all the ups and downs of determining out due date.  For those of you that don't know doctors use the first day of your last period to determine your due date early on.  When we found out that I was pregnant that date was estimated at August 27 2014.  For those of you that know me and know that that date is my birthday, I was pretty excited.  I thought it was pretty cool that our baby's due date was on my birthday. The next time that we came around to getting a chance to estimating the due date was at our 12 week ultrasound.  Now it is kind of hard to determine exactly when you are twelve weeks along if you don't know the exact date of conception.  So we estimated based on the doctor's method of using the first day of my last period and went to have the ultrasound around that mark.  According to that ultrasound, the 'dating ultrasound' I was further along that we originally thought.  However, baby girl d...

Australian Vacation

Hello all!   I know that it has been quite a long time since I last posted a blog but I decided it was time for another post.  Having a little one crawling all over the place really takes up my time now-a-days.  Infact, the only reason I am able to write this now is because she is napping.  Maybe I will be able to get this done in the time it takes for one nap...we shall see.  So here it goes. This past week the Ohrvalls' took a much needed vacation to Cairns, Australia.  Matthew and I had such a blast taking Isabella on her first family vacation but it was difficult to transition our old vacationing without kids mindset and bring it to a vacationing with a baby mindset.  It is quite different going on vacation with an 8 month old than it is with just two adults.  Needless to say, we spent a lot more time in the hotel room during nap time and at parks for playtime.  But we were still able to do a lot of really fun stuff as a family that we ...
