New Church and Snorkel Adventures

This past weekend Matthew and I finally got up the nerve to venture out into the island and search out a new church.  The church on base is a nice church but not a good fit for us.  When we went to the base church we saw mostly single moms with children and older couples.  We decided that we needed to search out another church to better fit our needs and lifestyle.

While driving around the island we spotted a church named Marianas Christian Fellowship.  This was the first church that we have seen on island that is not Catholic, Baptist or Protestant in denomination.  Thus, we figured we might as well check it out.  This is a big step outside of our comfort zones but we got up enough courage and went through with it.  And God is good!  (All the time!)  He showed us a great small church that is very much like the type of church that we would attend at home.  And there are all different types of people that attend this church.  There were other Navy people, Army people, Air force, Wives, children and even some locals!  We are going to stick with this church for a while and try to plant our roots and make some good Christian friends.  We have been missing our Sunday fill and the community that surrounds a local church.  Hopefully this will be the one for us while we are on the island.

I also wanted to tell you all about the awesome snorkeling that we did yesterday!  It was amazing!  We went to a new beach that I had never been to before.  Matthew had been there so he knew what the expect as far as the ocean floor went.  So what I didn't know what going to happen, and what I had never experienced before, was the ocean floor completely dropping off from about 4-6 feet deep to about 50-75 feet deep.  At first I was scared!  I am afraid of heights and have come to the conclusion that if you are afraid of heights then you will probably be afraid of depths!  It freaked me out at first but it was a really cool sight to see.

We saw some new creatures in those depths and I did my first shallow dive out there!  Matthew dove down and got a pretty sweet looking shell from the coral.  We couldn't keep it though because there was some creature living in it.  After about 45 minutes out in the water it started to rain so we started our way back to shore.  When we got up close to the rocks by the shore and it was only about a foot deep we saw two baby reef sharks!  Yep, that's right we saw two sharks!  One was about a foot and a half long and the other was about two feet long.  It happened so fast that if they had wanted to claim their territory then we wouldn't have been able to get away but luckily they were more scared of us and swam away pretty quickly.

So fun stuff happening on Guam.  Another post is soon to come about our first official hike that we went on today.  It will even include a video that we took!!  So look forward to that one!

April Update

I thought that since I had not given an update in a while that is was about time I did.  So I am going to tell you what has been going on this past month. Matthew First  (because his is shorter than mine): Matthew had his certification test this past month as well as his E4 qualification exam.  He took the E4 exam before he had certification tests.  The E4 exam has a lot to do with why he was assigned to unaccompanied travel to Guam.  He was supposed to be ranked up to an E4 before he could be sent overseas as a accompanied traveler.  (If that doesn't make sense to you...join the club)  But, luckily  Matthew feels like he did well on the exam so hopefully he will be ranked up to an E4 and there won't be any controversy over me joining him in Guam.  Then there's the certification tests; these are the tests that he takes at the school for learning how to be a Naval K9 handler.  Matthew feels that he did really well on these tests ...

Your Due Date Is...

On today's blog I wanted to share with you all the ups and downs of determining out due date.  For those of you that don't know doctors use the first day of your last period to determine your due date early on.  When we found out that I was pregnant that date was estimated at August 27 2014.  For those of you that know me and know that that date is my birthday, I was pretty excited.  I thought it was pretty cool that our baby's due date was on my birthday. The next time that we came around to getting a chance to estimating the due date was at our 12 week ultrasound.  Now it is kind of hard to determine exactly when you are twelve weeks along if you don't know the exact date of conception.  So we estimated based on the doctor's method of using the first day of my last period and went to have the ultrasound around that mark.  According to that ultrasound, the 'dating ultrasound' I was further along that we originally thought.  However, baby girl d...

Australian Vacation

Hello all!   I know that it has been quite a long time since I last posted a blog but I decided it was time for another post.  Having a little one crawling all over the place really takes up my time now-a-days.  Infact, the only reason I am able to write this now is because she is napping.  Maybe I will be able to get this done in the time it takes for one nap...we shall see.  So here it goes. This past week the Ohrvalls' took a much needed vacation to Cairns, Australia.  Matthew and I had such a blast taking Isabella on her first family vacation but it was difficult to transition our old vacationing without kids mindset and bring it to a vacationing with a baby mindset.  It is quite different going on vacation with an 8 month old than it is with just two adults.  Needless to say, we spent a lot more time in the hotel room during nap time and at parks for playtime.  But we were still able to do a lot of really fun stuff as a family that we ...
