Traveling to Guam

Hello All!  I finally got to Guam with Matthew.  So here is a rundown of how my travels went...
I woke up Wednesday morning and got ready to head to the airport.  I went online to check-in for my flight and discovered that it was delayed until 1:50pm!  That would mean that I would miss my connecting flight to Japan.  After a momentary freak out I called the airline and they put me on a different flight that would get me to Guam at the same time (and in a shorter amount of flying time!).  So everything was fine and we went off to the airport.

My first flight was from RDU to Chicago with a 1 hour layover.  That flight went quickly.  It was a small 'puddle jumper' type plane.   My second flight was from Chicago to Japan.  It was only 13 hour compared to my previous 18 hour flight from DC.  I was in a middle seat but it turned out to be OK because the people that I sat next to were pretty nice.  There was an older Japanese man that spoke a little english and was pretty goofy.  I think he was a football coach though.  I didn't know they had football in Japan.  Then there was a native Chamarro woman (from Guam) that was going home to see her family after 9 years in Chicago.  We talked about some native Guam stuff like the food and the weather.  She was supposed to be getting on a flight one hour after she landed in Japan heading for Guam.  I tried to get on her flight with her but when I asked they said that they did not have enough time to transfer the baggage from my other plane.  So I ended up spending about 5 hours in the Japanese airport.  I slept for about 3 or those hours though!  (With my bags close by! lol)

Finally the last leg of the flight trip.  Three hours from Japan to Guam and seeing my husband!  That flight was the worst of the 3.  I traded spots with a girl so that she could sit with her friend and ended up sitting next to a grumpy grandma that was actually a little rude.  Needless to say I did not try to spark conversation with her.  Mostly I tried to sleep during that flight.  That flight felt a lot longer than the 3 hours that it actually was!

When we finally landed I was super excited and nervous that I was going to see Matthew at every turn.  I was looking for him the whole time I was following the signs to baggage!  We got in at 1:20 am and I didn't get my bags until 2:00am.  I was getting really frustrated that the bag people we keeping me from seeing my husband who I knew I was closer to at that time than I had been in months!

BUT... of course the bags finally came and I did finally get my hugs and kisses from Matthew!

First impressions of Guam:

     1)  Walking from the airport to the car I had only one thought about Guam:  HOT AND HUMID!!  And this was at 2am!
     2)  Tropical Paradise!  Palm trees everywhere!  Yepp that's just within the first 2 minutes!

Alright well this post is long enough.  I am going to do one more today about the house but then you might not hear from me in a while.  I'm sitting in McDonald's typing this.  We get internet installed on Wednesday.

April Update

I thought that since I had not given an update in a while that is was about time I did.  So I am going to tell you what has been going on this past month. Matthew First  (because his is shorter than mine): Matthew had his certification test this past month as well as his E4 qualification exam.  He took the E4 exam before he had certification tests.  The E4 exam has a lot to do with why he was assigned to unaccompanied travel to Guam.  He was supposed to be ranked up to an E4 before he could be sent overseas as a accompanied traveler.  (If that doesn't make sense to you...join the club)  But, luckily  Matthew feels like he did well on the exam so hopefully he will be ranked up to an E4 and there won't be any controversy over me joining him in Guam.  Then there's the certification tests; these are the tests that he takes at the school for learning how to be a Naval K9 handler.  Matthew feels that he did really well on these tests ...

Your Due Date Is...

On today's blog I wanted to share with you all the ups and downs of determining out due date.  For those of you that don't know doctors use the first day of your last period to determine your due date early on.  When we found out that I was pregnant that date was estimated at August 27 2014.  For those of you that know me and know that that date is my birthday, I was pretty excited.  I thought it was pretty cool that our baby's due date was on my birthday. The next time that we came around to getting a chance to estimating the due date was at our 12 week ultrasound.  Now it is kind of hard to determine exactly when you are twelve weeks along if you don't know the exact date of conception.  So we estimated based on the doctor's method of using the first day of my last period and went to have the ultrasound around that mark.  According to that ultrasound, the 'dating ultrasound' I was further along that we originally thought.  However, baby girl d...

Australian Vacation

Hello all!   I know that it has been quite a long time since I last posted a blog but I decided it was time for another post.  Having a little one crawling all over the place really takes up my time now-a-days.  Infact, the only reason I am able to write this now is because she is napping.  Maybe I will be able to get this done in the time it takes for one nap...we shall see.  So here it goes. This past week the Ohrvalls' took a much needed vacation to Cairns, Australia.  Matthew and I had such a blast taking Isabella on her first family vacation but it was difficult to transition our old vacationing without kids mindset and bring it to a vacationing with a baby mindset.  It is quite different going on vacation with an 8 month old than it is with just two adults.  Needless to say, we spent a lot more time in the hotel room during nap time and at parks for playtime.  But we were still able to do a lot of really fun stuff as a family that we ...
